Finalizing Your Application

You’ve identified your favorite schools, and they seem likely to be affordable. Thankfully, online platforms allow you to use the same basic application for many colleges. But what do you put in the application? And how many schools should you apply to? And when does all of this happen?

What do you include?

In addition to your basic information, the application will include a main essay, a description of your extracurricular activities, and a section for additional information. For certain colleges, you will need to obtain one or more teacher recommendations to be uploaded by your school counselor.

How many do you send?

While some students may only need to apply to one college, most students apply to several and a few apply to 15 or more (depending on their circumstances). Students looking for substantial scholarships or financial aid often apply more widely to compare costs and determine the best value. Barrister will work with you to create a right-sized set of choices.

When does it have to be done?

Well, it’s complicated. The short answer is around November 1 for “early” applications and January 1 for “regular” applications, but each college sets its own deadlines, and many students will apply to different colleges in each round. Barrister can help you strategize the best approach to maximize your chances of admission in accordance with your goals and preferences.
